New Music Every Month - August: Lydstep, Tenby
Well, track number 8 is a very Lo-Fi song written on my semi electric called, Lydstep, Tenby and is a sad little story of a love gone wrong. It came about from two things.Firstly, I was listening to a lot of Billy Bragg at the time as I have been known to do - I often go through a phase of listening to the, Bard of Barking - and I was once more reveling in his incredible ability to write super sweet and emotional love stories that connect so flawlessly with the listener. Songs like, A Lover Sings, or, Moving the Goal posts are so fragile and beautiful that it made me want to strip it all down and write something similar. His ability to use just an electric guitar and vocal and yet create something so powerful has always sparked my imagination and so that was my brief, if you like.
At this same time, as luck would have it, I happened upon some old photographs from many moons ago that transported me back to a person and time that was no more and this immediately sparked the story for the song - A guy looking at a photograph he finds of a past love and, though time has passed and they've both moved on, finding a feeling from within the frame of that chapter of his life.
The song wrote itself very quickly and I feel it came at the right point as we leave the summer and start to head into Autumn. It shows a change from the songs of the past few months and welcomes in a new dawn of songs (I bloody hope!), for the final segment of the #newmusiceverymonth project!
