A slight change to service
As we've been getting closer to the end of the year I've been trying to work out the sequence of songs from the #newmusiceverymonth project to fit and work as an album. The plan has always been to release the 12 tracks as a single album, but after a lot of thinking over the past couple of months, I've decided to drop this idea.
I have a few reasons for this decision:
Firstly, the songs don't work together too well as an album of material. The thread is too weak and tenious and it doesn't have much of a flow to it. I mean, just trying to place 'Whatever Colour You Choose" correctly was near on impossible!
Now, this has happened because of the #newmusiceverymonth project itself, because it has totally served it's purpose and done what I needed it to do - Get me creating different style songs using different techniques and instruments I'd never experiemented with before. But it is because of this process that this has made a really quite eclectic batch of 12 songs!
The other reason I have decided to not release a 12 track album is that at the mid point mark of the project I released a 5 track EP, (Feelings aren't Facts) with the tracks released up until that point. So, to just re-release the same tracks again seems pretty pointless to me. I also think the EP idea works better with the mix of sounds and styles that this songs have, becasue they don't necessarily have to have a thread running through all the tracks.
And so that neatly brings me onto the plan for the remaining tunes: I will be releasing a second EP, under the title of what the album was going to be called (Carrier Bag Your Career is Over) and will have the remaining 7 tracks on it. This way all the tracks get released and yet they can fit into the EP world much neater than the album world.
So, I hope you see and understand why I've done this. Really, in this day and age of the skip button and singles being much more rampant it really shouldn't be much of an issue at all.
Do you think EP's suit this day and age better than albums overall? Let me know in the comments below.
